The Virginia Tech chapter of Alpha Pi Mu, industrial engineering honor society, organized a number of informational events and sessions during the Spring 2017 semester.
Systems Planning & Analysis, Inc. Information Session
On February 20, 2017, Alpha Pi Mu hosted Chris Anderson, from Systems Planning & Analysis, Inc. (SPA), who led an information session for students in ISE as well as other engineering majors. He shared information about the mission and work of SPA, along with internship and full-time job opportunities, with those in attendance. As a result of the session, two students who attended were ultimately hired by SPA!
Undergraduate Research Panel
Alpha Pi Mu hosted an Undergraduate Research Panel on March 23, 2017, where students heard from faculty who have advised Undergraduate Research as well as fellow students who have participated in UG research. Panelists answered questions about the variety of projects from across the department that occur each year, how students can get involved in a project, and the benefits of undergraduate research.
Five Year-Out Panel
On March 30, 2017, Alpha Pi Mu organized a Five Year-Out panel, with ISE alumni who graduated in the past five years sharing experiences with attendees. Alumni came from a wide variety of careers, including those working in manufacturing and consulting. Additionally, a current Ph.D. student, who was also a graduate of the ISE program, attended the panel to lend his own unique perspective.
On April 12, 2017, Alpha Pi Mu initiated its newest members into the organization. It was held in the War Memorial Chapel and followed by a reception in Durham Hall. In addition to the initiates, the ceremony was attended by various faculty, current members, and friends of the initiates.
