(October 16, 2017)  Several ISE faculty and graduate students will present their award-nominated papers at the INFORMS Annual Meeting. Winners will be announced at the meeting, which will be held from October 22 to 25 in Houston, TX.  The following are the faculty and students, as well as their presentation schedule.

Dr. Weijun Xie for George Nicholson student paper competition

First-year Assistant Professor Dr. Weijun Xie’s paper was nominated as one of the finalists in the George Nicholson student paper competition.  His paper is titled, “On deterministic reformulations of distributionally robust joint chance constrained optimization problems”.  He will be the third presenter at the session.

Chenang Liu and Dr. James Kong for QSR best paper competition

Ph.D. student Chenang Liu and Associate Professor Dr. James Kong's paper is a finalist in the Quality, Statistics & Reliability (QSR) best paper competition. Their paper is titled, "An Integrated Manifold Learning Approach for Online Process Monitoring of Additive Manufacturing Processes. They will be the third presenter at the session. 

Hrayer Aprahamian for 2017 Pierskalla award

Ph.D. student Hrayer Aprahamian and Associate Professors Drs. Douglas Bish and Ebru Bish co-authored a paper, which was selected as a finalist in the 2017 Pierskalla Award competition. Their paper is titled, “Optimal Risk-based Group Testing in Public Health Screening”. Hrayer will be the fourth presenter at the session. The winner of this award will be announced at the HAS Business Meeting on October 23.

VT Student Chapter as a winner of INFORMS Student Chapter Annual Award

The Virginia Tech Student Chapter has been selected as a winner of the Cum Laude level of the INFORMS 2017 Student Chapter Annual Award. This will be the seventh award that VT Student Chapter has received since 2007. The award will be presented at the Student Awards Ceremony, followed by a reception with refreshments.
