(November 9, 2015) ISE PhD student Kaveh Bastani was selected as a finalist for the Quality Statistics Reliability (QSR) Best Student Paper Award at the 2015 INFOMRS conference in Philadelphia, PA. His paper was titled “An Online Sparse Estimation based Approach for Real-time Monitoring in Additive Manufacturing Processes using Heterogeneous Sensor Data”.
In this paper, Kaveh proposed a supervised classification approach based on the concept of sparse estimation for real-time monitoring applications of additive manufacturing processes. To accommodate real-time monitoring, a novel fast sparse estimation algorithm was further developed and incorporated into the proposed approach. Real data scenarios were utilized for validation of the proposed approach. This paper was joint work with his advisor Dr. Zhenyu (James) Kong.
