(March 30, 2017) Associate Professor John P. Shewchuk has been named Associate Department Head and Undergraduate Program Director for the Grado Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE).  He had been serving as interim Associate Department Head and Undergraduate Program Director for ISE since July 2016.

Dr. Shewchuk’s teaching and research are in the areas of manufacturing and production systems.  Since joining the ISE Department in 1995, Dr. Shewchuk has been a key contributor to the ISE undergraduate program: he has instructed over 5,000 undergraduate students via six different undergraduate courses and has been involved in both undergraduate curriculum redesign and course development.  He designed the current rendition of ISE 2214 Manufacturing Processes Laboratory, one of the most popular ISE undergraduate courses.  Additionally, he introduced ISE 2034 Data Management for ISEs and ISE 4214 Lean Manufacturing to the ISE undergraduate curriculum in 2005 and 2006, respectively. 

Dr. Shewchuk received VT College of Engineering Excellence in Teaching Awards in 2006 and 2015, as well as the Institute of Industrial Engineers Lean Teaching Award in 2011.
