(February 28, 2017) Mr. Chris Rockwell, founder and president of Lextant in Columbus, Ohio, presented a well-attended seminar titled “Design for Moments of Truth (flyer)" to students and faculty from various disciplines in engineering, sciences, and humanity. The seminar was hosted by the ISE Department and student chapter of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES).
Mr. Rockwell started the seminar with the goals of design: to be useful, usable, and desirable. Design for a product or process should be desirable by end-users, because every design decision results in an experience (i.e., moments of truth) of the users. He presented the design research methods (e.g., co-creation) that his company uses as well as example cases that his company has worked on. His speech emphasized the importance of having a multidisciplinary team with engineers, scientists, and artists as well as aligning them on design outcomes in order to produce desirable designs and ideal experiences for the end users.
